Parabens. Almost sounds like paraffin: the warm wax put on your hands at the spa to make your hands soft but not quite. Actually, parabens aren’t ice chemicals at all. In fact, they are pretty toxic. So toxic that the EU has banned many of them from use in cosmetic and beauty products. But what exactly is a paraben and what are the top reasons to avoid them? Let’s find out.

Parabens are a chemical substance used as a preservative for cosmetics and beauty products such as shampoos, moisturizers AND deodorant. They are absorbed into the bloodstream upon application to the skin. If you have read any of our other blogs, you know that it only takes twenty six seconds for what we put on our skin to be absorbed into our bloodstream: that is all, twenty six seconds! Why should we avoid parabens? Here are the top three reasons to avoid parabens.

Hormone Disruptors: Parabens act like the hormone estrogen in the body. This leads to disruption and dysfunction of the hormonal system in our body. This disruption and dysfunction leads to a host of other issues. Our hormones are responsible for many bodily functions such as reproduction, digestion and waste elimination.

Early Puberty: Half of all nine year olds apply deodorant daily. A growing girl whose body is changing physically and hormonally can be affected. Exposure to parabens has been linked to early puberty with early onset of menstruation and early breast development.

Hormonal Cancers: Because of their ability to mimic estrogen, exposure to parabens has been linked to cancers such as ovarian and cervical cancer. Long term exposure to estrogen and estrogen like chemicals have been linked to breast cancer as well.

These reasons and many more are why there are NO parabens in Evelyn Kay Deodorant. None. We don’t want to risk our health every day. We certainly do not want you to risk your health and the health of the women, young and old, in your life either.

Don’t risk it, come join the club.
